Do you want to play your favorite games without any lag? If yes, then it is important that you keep your GPU temperature at an optimal level. In this blog post, we will talk about simple and effective ways on how to lower the GPU temperature while gaming.
1. Use Laptop Cooling Pad
A great way to lower your GPU temperature is to use a laptop cooling pad. The best way to describe how this works is by taking the analogy of how a fridge functions. A fridge has an inbuilt fan that keeps the inside cool and fresh for longer periods of time, so much that you don’t have worry about opening the door every now and then. This is how a laptop cooling pad functions, it keeps the inside cool and fresh for longer with its in-built fan. This way you can play all your favorite games without having to worry about any lag or slowdown of performance.
Laptop Cooling Pads are very cheap as well, so if you want to enjoy playing your games on high graphics for longer periods of time, then you should definitely invest in one.
2. Update The Graphics Driver
You might not know how important it is to update graphics drivers. There are regular updates that come out every month for the best graphics cards in the market, so you should try and keep up with them if possible. This way you can game on high settings without any lag or slowdown of performance whatsoever. Even consoles like Xbox One and PlayStation have regular updates to their software, so you should try and keep up with them as well.
Remember that not all drivers are the same; some might actually decrease your performance if they aren’t updated correctly by professionals. You should make sure that you are downloading them correctly, or else there is a chance of your GPU temperature increasing.
3. Clean off Dust from Fan/Heat Sink
Over time, dust accumulates on your GPU fan and heat sink. This is the number one reason for any lag or slowdown of performance because it messes with how well your PC can cool itself down. If you have a laptop, then this step might not be as important to do since laptops are already built in such a way that they keep themselves cool. But, if you have a desktop PC with an exposed fan and heat sink, then this step is very important to do so that your GPU temperature does not increase over time.
Remember how we talked about how fridges keep their inside fresh for longer periods of time? This analogy relates perfectly here because the same thing happens in our PCs. If there is a lot of dust on how how well it can cool itself, then you need to take actions in cleaning out the accumulated dust from your fan and heat sink.
Fortunately, this process doesn’t require much effort at all. All you have to do is use compressed air or even a cotton bud dipped in alcohol if there’s no compressed air available. But, the best way to do this is by using a compressed air duster because it doesn’t leave your fan and heat sink wet or moist.
4. Replace Thermal Paste
If you have followed the first three steps in this blog post, then your GPU temperature should be at an optimal level right now. But if not, then there is another step that you can take to lower your GPU temperature even further – replace thermal paste with a better one!
Thermal Paste basically does exactly how it sounds like; it transfers heat to the heat sink. However, there are thermal pastes out in the market that might not be as good as how it was when you first brought your GPU home. This is due to how well thermal paste works; over time and with more use, they become worse at how much heat they can actually transfer from your GPU onto your PC’s heat sink.
Follow these steps to replace your GPU the thermal paste:
– Unplug your GPU from the power source.
– Remove how thermal paste is applied to the heat sink itself by either using a cotton bud or even just your finger nail.
– Add new thermal paste on top of where it was before, and reattach it back into place
5. Improve Air Flow in PC Case
Another thing to do to lower your GPU temperature while gaming would be to improve the air flow inside of pc case itself. This can be done by cleaning your PC’s fan and heat sink is, as well as adding some more fans to the case.
The ventilations on your PC’s case are very important because it allows hot air to escape your pc. But, if the ventilations are blocked or dirty then that can increase much heat builds up inside of the computer itself. It would be best to clean out what dust you can from all around the computer and also place some more fans.
These steps should be done by a professional if you don’t know what to do, so it might take some time and effort on your side. But if you follow the instructions correctly then the results at lowering GPU temperature while gaming will speak for itself!
6. Get a GPU Water Cooling System
If you think that your GPU temperature while gaming is too high and none of the above steps seem to be working, then it might time for you to get a water cooling system or even an aftermarket cooler.
This step isn’t necessary because there are other ways on how to lower your GPU temperature without having to spend extra money (and also having to install water cooling systems), but if you are serious about getting the best results possible then this step is very important.
A water cooling system is essentially a miniature version of how your PC’s radiator works. However, they are much more efficient than what you can get from the factory because there will be many fans and heat sink attached to it so that more air can flow through them at once.
The best part about this step though is that all you have to do is install the water cooling system onto your GPU, and then attach it to where your fan was before. So it’s very easy for anyone to do this!
A note about water cooling systems though; they are pretty expensive so if you don’t feel comfortable spending extra money on something like this, then follow the rest of the steps in this blog post.
You should be able to lower your GPU temperature while gaming by following these steps because they are all very simple and easy to do! If there’s anything that you don’t understand then feel free to leave a comment below and someone will help as soon as possible!
