The SmartScreen Filter is a web program designed for web browsers such as Internet Explorer or Google Chrome. Mainly this filter technology used to prevent users from malicious websites and some other online applications that harmful for the computer.

In Windows 10 the Microsoft Edge is a default web browser. Microsoft implements SmartScreen Filter into edge browser directly into the operating system. Which means the files automatically screened through OS.

What is SmartScreen Filter

In simple words, Windows SmartScreen filter sends information about every application you download and run to Microsoft servers. Where the received information is analyzed and then compared with the advanced malicious apps database.

So, if Windows receive a negative feedback’s about any app from the server it will prevent users to running the app.

But sometimes internet explorer SmartScreen filter doesn’t get any details about the app, but its continuously show an annoying message ”Windows protected your PC by preventing this potentially malicious app from running”.

Disable SmartScreen Filter In Windows 10

To get rid of SmartScreen filter in windows you just need to disable it.

Step 1 : 

Open Control Panel through Start Menu.

Step 2 : 

Go to System and Security > System Maintenance. Click on “Change Windows ScreenSmart Settings” shown in given (screenshot).

Step 3 : 

In the next pop-up window screen, there three options. To disable SmartScreen filter choose the third option “Don’t do anything (turn off Windows SmartScreen)”.  Click OK
